IPhone π

Sadly, I’m sure this round iPhone concept will get mostly negative feedback, simply because it’s unusual. The creation of Chike Newman, from London, the iPhone Pi is an original device, because it totally strays away from the rectangular handset designs of the modern age.

The iPhone Pi does keep the physical Home button and looks like a big stopwatch of sorts. The icons are placed to the sides with the main area of the screen being free. The music player interface in the lockscreen actually looks kind of hot, but I’m not sure how well the device will sit in the pocket or in the hand.

LG G5

LG brought its A-game to MWC 2016. The LG G5 is a proper head-turner with its always-on display and modular add-on concept. The handset is also big in the camera department, bringing two separate shooters with different fields of view, allowing for zooming action and some cool effects.

And while the G5 is definitely worth plenty of attention of its own, LG believes it's the ecosystem of accessories that will give it the edge over its competitors. The LG 360 VR headset is pretty much self-explanatory in its purpose and so is the LG 360 Cam, while the LG Rolling Bot spices things up with a quirky design and unorthodox functionality.

Huawei Mate 8

The Huawei Mate 8 has dropped the Ascend badge, but it offers all the key pros of the Ascend Mate7 and then some. Coming a year after the Mate7, it was only expected that the Mate 8 will show maturity and address its predecessor's shortcomings, most notably the poor graphics performance and the less than stellar camera output.

Huawei's in-house-developed Kirin 950 chipset promises to deliver on the first count, and also brings heaps of CPU oomph. The camera is all-new as well - with a larger, higher-res sensor and phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

With the Xperia Z5 family, Sony has definitely piqued the interest of the public, delivering not one, but three flagship devices. The Z5 Premium is the world first 4K screen phone, while the Xperia Z5 compact is a powerhouse device with a small footprint.

This, however, puts the regular Z5 in somewhat of an odd spot. For the first time ever, the standard "Z" model is not the "latest and greatest" Sony has to offer. It also almost identical to the Z3+, while being quite a bit more expensive.

Motorola Nexus 6

Nexus 6 by Motorola marks a shift in market positioning for Google's smartphone lineup. Whereas the duo of LG-made devices that precede it cut back on certain features to stay attractively priced, the Nexus 6 is ready to rub shoulders with the best in the Android realm. It is no longer simply an Android reference phone, but a true Google flagship, both on paper and in person.

Motorola Nexus 6 has a special place in the history of Google's smartphone family. The 6" phablet development took place during Google's ownership of Motorola (the storied manufacturer became a Lenovo company several days ago), so it is as pure in philosophy as it is in terms of OS.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is a unique device and a first for Samsung: it comes with a screen that curves towards one of the edges of the phone and allowing users to quickly glance at notifications and also use this area to add more controls to the device. The Galaxy Note Edge is a phablet at heart: it packs a 5.6-inch 1440 x 2560-pixel (Quad HD) display. It's also got a powerful.

Snapdragon 805 system chip and a 16-megapixel OIS camera.Samsung's previous device with a bent screen, the Galaxy Round, was a high-end phablet in its own right but the added value of the arched screen was questionable. The Galaxy Note Edge seems to have more purpose and steps on the recognizable giant shoulders of the Galaxy Note 4, instead of building user awareness from scratch.

LG V10

There's quite a lot to the LG V10 - a flagship, a phablet, a camera phone, a rugged phone, a Hi-Fi phone and the first of the new V-series. It's a feature-packed device and its signature feature is the secondary always-on display and a dual selfie camera.

The secondary display is essentially one line above the main screen that can be left on 24/7 and serves for notifications and shortcuts. This is to the notification light as email is to Morse code - a much richer way to give you at-a-glance info of what happened since you last checked your phone.
